  • Working split shifts, initially part time, transferring to full time in February 1995. The job involved caring for the customers in a family run, 3 star Hotel, where staff were trained to ensure repeat bookings by cheerful and conscientious customer care.
Christmas 1994 Sales Assistant/ Temporary Stockroom Manager Dixons, Bath
  • I worked at Dixons for two months, over the busy Christmas/January sales period while continuing as a part-time waiter at the Cliffe. As stockroom manager, I was responsible for maintaining the perpetual inventory, organising the stockrooms and returning faulty goods.

INTERESTS

Sailing

  • RYA sailing certificates: Coastal Skipper, Day Skipper, Competent Crew and Level 5 Dinghy.
  • Achieving these certificates involves the running of a Yacht in all conditions, including taking charge of the crew and being responsible for their lives, provisioning the Yacht and maintaining her to a high standard and coping quickly and efficiently with emergencies.
  • I was Vice Commodore of the Cheltenham College Sailing club and 1st VI sailing team. I competed in both team and individual events both locally and nationally.

Theatre, films and television

  • Technical Manager of Bloomsbury Television, during which time the society was brought to an all time high level of quality by introducing and training people to use computer based non-linear editing techniques. Additionally responsible for the smooth running of the weekly live programme.
  • Lighting designer and sound engineer on many productions at school and university, which involved thorough organisational skills and the expression of artistic and individual concepts.
  • I have made several films of my own and helped with lighting in the UCL Union Film Society, which being in its fifty-fourth year is the oldest university-based film society in the country.
  • Ten week script writing course University of Bath

General

  • School positions of responsibility included: Secretary to the Science Society, Committee member of Christian Forum, Occasional speaker and member of the sixth form society and General Studies groups, President of the Hovercraft Club, and a Leading Seaman in the Navy Section of the CCF, teaching drill, navigation and shooting.
  • Wining a competitive travel scholarship to study the Minoan civilisation on the Island of Crete. Our dissertation was later published in the Cheltonian society magazine.
